France, gas to arrive in Corsica in 2023
LNG and gas pipeline options under study, decision by 2018
Gas will also arrive in Corsica by 2023. General Director at the French Ministry for Energy, Mario Pain, announced this on Friday, in a meeting with the regional representatives.
The ministry, specified Pain, has already launched a competitive dialog, a tender procedure through which the authorities may talk with the participating entities in order to fine tune and specify the proposals.
“We hope that the selection of the candidates for the final tender stage will take place between October and December this year,” added Pain. In his opinion this will allow for choosing the winner “in the first half-year of 2018.” At that point, there will begin a permit-granting procedure and thus the construction works so that gas could probably arrive in Corsica in 2023.
As for the type of works, Pain stated that for the time being numerous alternatives are being analyzed, from a floating regasification facility offshore Lucciana to a gas pipeline with the continent.
