Gas, the 2018/2019 strategic storage remains set at 4.62 billion m3
The Ministry of Economic Development: “The current capacity is suitable to guarantee
adequate security margins”
“The capacity of existing storage infrastructures is considered suitable to guarantee adequate security margins that meet the gas demand of customers who are connected to gas distribution networks, in the peak seasonal period, which may be related to a temporary drop in temperatures to levels exceptionally lower than those recorded in the past twenty years or in the event of a disruption of at least thirty days in the main import infrastructure.” This is the reason that led the Ministry of Economic Development to confirm the strategic storage volume for the 2018/2019 contract year (1 April 2018 - 31 March 2019) at 4,620 million m3 (48.846 GWh).
As reported in a note, the Gas Emergency Committee “has assessed the impact on the gas national system, analysing different gas supply and demand scenarios in the peak seasonal period in order to establish the overall strategic storage volume.”
