Non-ETS emissions, the approval of the EU Council
Adopted also the directive on efficiency of buildings, the LULUCF regulation and the
decision on environmental reporting
On Monday the European Council approved the directive on energy performance of buildings and the regulations on reduction in CO2 emissions in non-ETS sectors (Effort Sharing) and those deriving from the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF).
Now the provisions, already approved last month by the European Parliament, will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The member states will have to transpose the directive on energy performance of buildings within 20 months.
The Council also adopted a decision which updates the EU legislation on environmental reporting. The decision is the result of the programme of “evaluation of adequacy and efficiency of legislation” (Refit), which Brussels launched in 2014 with the aim of removing obsolete and inefficient legislation.
