Costa: “To strengthen the system of environmental agencies”

The Minister meets the heads of ISPRA and SNPA. President Laporta: “We have instruments and capacity to operate well”

20180712_2.jpg“ To strengthen the system of environmental agencies means reinforcing the operational side of environmental protection which includes the instruments of competence, independence and professionalism.” Minister of the Environment, Sergio Costa, said that on Tuesday’s meeting with the representatives of the National Network Environmental Protection System (Sistema nazionale a rete per la protezione ambientale, SNPA) held at the headquarters of ISPRA (Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale - Institute for Environmental Protection and Research).
“One of the pillars is independence of the system of agencies as guarantee of impartiality,” added Costa, announcing that “the goals that we have set encompass also work for establishing the position of environmental inspectors.”
In the course of the meeting, President of ISPRA and SNPA, Stefano Laporta, and Vice President of SNPA, Luca Marchesi, described the Minister the objectives, intents and institutional tasks of both bodies.
In particular, informs a message, the system aims to define a national strategy to accomplish a minimum uniform level of environmental protection across Italy, taking account however, of territorial differences.
“From the technical and scientific decisions that we will make throughout the years will derive the advantages for the entire country,” declared President Laporta, convinced that “we have all the instruments and capacity to be able to operate well.”
