EU, circular economy under consultation
Initiative to evaluate compliance of the European product policy
On
Thursday, the European Commission has launched a consultation on a future EU’s political framework
for products, with the aim of evaluating different options and actions to render the community’s
legislation more coherent with the strategies of circular economy.
The consultation, which closes on January 24, 2019, derives from a reflection that the
product policy has an important role in the transition towards circular economy and it is part of
the process of implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan that the Commission adopted in
2015.
In particular, explains the document under consultation, the initiative intends to deal with
the fact that numerous products available on the marked have not been designed or produced in
consideration with the principles of circular economy, as they cannot be easily repaired, improved
or recycled and thus they become prematurely obsolescent.
