Goal: raise awareness of students and teachers on sustainability issues
“ To elaborate a national plan for environmental education in Italian schools of all types and levels to raise awareness of children and teens, from a very young age, on such issues as environmental sustainability and quality of development.” It is the goal of a memorandum of intent signed on Wednesday by Ministers of Education, University and Research and the Environment, which provides for, among others, environmental education courses for students, support to the projects and activities of autonomous initiatives of schools and training programmes as well as refresher courses for teachers.
The memorandum, signed by Ministers Marco Bussetti and Sergio Costa, provides for the firsts allocation of 1.3 m euros intended for schools.
“We aim to establish structured cooperation between our ministries and define a plan of specific actions to enable our students to come into contact with the environment from an early age and in an informed and responsible,” declared Bussetti, whereas for Costa the memorandum “trails a causeway to be built together.”
