Regulation

In the natural gas business most part of the activities are regulated by an autorithy: the Autorità per l'Energia Elettrica il gas e il sistema idrico

Snam operates in the infrastructure activities of natural gas: regulatory aspects - defined by Autorità per l'energia elettrica il gas e il sistema idrico - thus play an extremely important role in the business.

The principles of the EU energy policy identifies three main objectives as the cornerstone of this policy: security of supply, competition and sustainability.

The internal market of natural gas, in particular, is a key aspect of the strategy as it aims to intensify cross-border trade in the view of achieving greater efficiency, competitive prices and higher levels of service, while also contributing to security of supply and sustainable development.

In this context the role of managing infrastructure is essential. The infrastructure of the gas system (pipelines, storage and regasification plants) will cope with the development needs for the creation of a European network highly interconnected, flexible and able to meet the changing needs of the natural gas sector.
