Compressor stations are key infrastructures that allow both energy distribution and energy security. Their purpose is to compress natural gas - mainly imported from from Russia, North Europe and North Africa - and push it in the national pipeline network from north to south of the country. The compressor stations ensures the regular flow of gas in the transport network and are controlled remotely from the dispatching center, an high technology infrastructure that operates 24/7.
A team is dedicated to maintenance and control of equipment.
The criteria adopted for the design of compression centers are based on national and international specific criteria as well as on proven experience. Stations are designed to achieve an high degree of safety, reliability and operational efficiency.
Plants are located strategically and ensures the constant gas pressure throughout all network. For this reason, the structures are distributed to convey the flows along the Peninsula. Thanks to their location, these infrastructures contribute to national energy security.

Integration with local communities
In line with sustainable development policies, that lead Snam’s projects, plants are designed to be integrated with the sorroundings, aiming at creating of values for local communities and at playing an important role in the Country’s development. From an environmental sustainability point of view, pants do not produce significantly atmospheric and acoustic emissions, and are integrated with the local areas, through the plantig of native species of trees and shrubs.
