The Sustainable Truck of the Year award to a methane-fueled truck
This year’s prize went to a CNG-powered vehicle of Scania’s new L series
The truck of the new L series of Scania fueled with methane won the prize of Sustainable
Truck of the Year (STY) in the category of Distribution. It was the third edition of the award
sponsored by the specialist magazine “Vado e Torno” in cooperation with the Technical University of
Milan.
The award, a message explains, is given “on the basis of a concept of sustainability and
efficiency understood not only as the cut in the exhaust gas emissions, but also capacity to reduce
the risk threshold, the impact of transit on the resident population as well as starting from a
production cycle focusing on the concepts of sustainability from beginning to end.”
The awarded truck has an engine of the Euro 6 standard fueled with CNG of 340 CV and 9.3
liters and a maximum torque of 1,600 nm.
“The L series engine and gearbox are actually the state of the art in terms of the methane
wheel drive and drive direction control understood as the maximum exploitation of performance with
the minimum consumption, and thus environmental impact,” commented Director of “Vado e Torno,”
Maurizio Cervetto.
