Agri-energy, position paper of MiPAAFT

Minister Centinaio: “To further promote bioenergie”

“It is necessary to further promote bioenergy, which are a crucial aspect for the future of the Italian agriculture, also considering wide availability of biomass and the opportunity of their use for energy production purposes, including residual, agricultural, forest biomass as well as that from crops cultivation.” The Minister of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Gian Marco Centinaio, said it on Tuesday, when presenting a “position paper on agri-energy” elaborated by the Ministry and CREA along with Coldiretti, Confagricoltura and CIA.
The plan aims to “give proper emphasis to the contribution of the biomass of agricultural origin to the Energy and Climate National Plan and focus better on the requirements concerning the transposition of Directive Red II on renewable energy,” explains a message.
In further detail, the position paper points out that the transport sector “should aim more decisively at the development of advanced biofuels of agricultural origin, especially biomethane.”
Moreover, “the present levels of electricity generation must be maintained until 2030” through the prediction of policies and support measures, whereas the production of thermal energy “ should be underpinned by further bioenergy expansion by 2030 compared to the present production levels.”
