Sector coupling, the proposals of ENTSOG and ENTSO-E

Focus Study on interlinkage of gas and electricity systems

On Monday the associations of European electricity and gas TSOs, ENTSO-E and ENTSOG, respectively published a “Focus Study” on interlinkage between both systems that are becoming increasingly independent in the aspect of energy transition.
A message explains that since ENTSO-E and ENTSOG started working on common scenarios, both of them have analyzed further the interactions between the systems of gas and electricity in order to improve their interlinked model, based on regulations and guidelines of the European Commission and ACER.
The report entitled “Focus study on gas and electricity interlinkage,” commissioned by the ENTSOs to the consulting company Artelys, concludes that the interactions between the TYNDP scenarios adequately took gas and electricity systems interactions into account, although in specific cases some further interactions between infrastructure projects may be identified.
Now ENTSO-E and ENTSOG will work on the revision of their interlinkage model on the basis of the recommendations of the Focus Study and the stakeholders’ feedback, the message concludes.
