Innovative startups reaching 11,500

Data as of June 30 in the new report by the MoED, Unioncamere and InfoCamere

As of June 30, 2020, there are 11,496 innovative startups, which makes up 3.1% of all newly created corporations. These are the figures contained in the new edition of the quarterly monitoring report dedicated to the demographic trends and economic performance of innovative startups drawn up in cooperation of MoED and InfoCamere, with the support of the Chambers of Commerce (Unioncamere).
The report specifies that Lombardy hosts over a quarter of all Italian startups (27.3%), of which 2,254 (19.6%) are based in the Province of Milan. As for the other Regions, only Lazio exceeds 1,000, mostly located in Rome (1,178, 10.2% of the country’s total). However, the region with the highest density of innovative companies is Trentino-Alto Adige, where approximately 5.4% of all the companies set up in the last 5 years are startups.
In terms of the workforce, the report indicates that the company’s share capital, compared to the previous quarter, increased by 1.2%, reaching over 53,000. There is reported a high number of companies founded by under-35s (18% of the total), while women’s enterprises are still under-represented (13.2% vs. 21.7% of all corporations).
Finally, in terms of turnover, innovative startups show an average production value of slightly less than 163,000 euros.
