Industrial hydrogen: Spain to have the largest European plant

20 MW electrolysis system in Puertollano, € 150 million worth investments

The largest European plant producing “green” hydrogen for industrial use to be built in Spain.
Iberdrola and Fertiberia have actually signed an agreement that provides for investments of 150 million euros in the Municipality of Puertollano, in the Castilla-La Mancha Region. It is also the location of the Spanish National Hydrogen Center (CNH) which helped the two companies in the first phases of the project.
Iberdrola, according to the information released in a communication, will deal with the production of hydrogen through one of the largest electrolysis systems in the world (20 MW), which will be 100% powered by a 100 MW photovoltaic system.
The hydrogen produced will be used in the Fertiberia’s ammonia plant in located Puertollano, which will use it for the production of fertilizers.
