TAP becomes operational
The pipeline transmitting gas from Azerbaijan to Europe is operational after 4 years of works
Almost four and a half years after construction began, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline is fully
operational. It was announced by TAP AG, when communicating the start of commercial operations.
Now TAP “allows achieving a double goal: the opening of a new reliable and sustainable energy
route and the availability of a new gas source that will reach millions of European end users in
the coming decades,” commented Managing Director Luca Schieppati.
The pipeline is the European section of the Southern Gas Corridor. A route – said Murad
Heydarov, President of the Board at TAP – that “opens the way for the supply of gas from Azerbaijan
to Europe and is one of the most modern and reliable systems currently available for the
transmission of energy.”
TAP, 878 km long, will bring to Europe 10 billion m3 of gas a year produced in the Azerbaijan’
s field of Shah Deniz 2, connecting with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish
border.
