EU, the framework for calculating transport emissions arrives

Brussels initiative for freight and passengers: “Companies and customers may compare various options.”

“CountEmissions EU”. This is the name of the initiative by means of which the European Commission aims to define a common framework for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas emissions related to the transport of goods and passengers, as part of the Sustainable Mobility Strategy launched at the end of last year.
The initiative, now under consultation until December 17, will be changed into a regulation to be adopted in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The main issue that CountEmissions EU intends to address is the lack of information that currently prevents companies, customers and passengers from easily and accurately monitoring and comparing the emissions of various transport options.
The purpose is therefore to provide a single EU framework for calculating emissions data, make available reliable and comparable information on the greenhouse gas intensity of individual transport services and facilitate the adoption of emissions accounting in business practice.
