Competition, the Senate gives final approval for the 2021 Annual Law
Reform is part of the NRRP delivered to the EU Commission
The Senate gave final approval to the Legislative Decree on Competition with 161 votes in favor,
21 against, and 2 abstentions. The Annual Market and Competition Law 2021 is linked to the public
finance measure and included among the enabling reforms of the National Recovery and Resilience
The measure – whose delegated decrees are to be enacted by the end of 2022, according to the NRRP delivered to the EU Commission – contains regulations regarding the energy sector, such as the exercise of special powers for hydroelectric concessions, new issues on gas tenders, provisions on electric vehicle charging stations, local public services, and delegation to the government of reorganizing simplifications on renewables.
In addition, according to the provisions of the NRRP, Italy must complete a comprehensive competition reform by 2024, adopting a law on an annual basis between now and 2024.
