Snam Rete Gas awarded the Oscar di Bilancio for Corporate Governance
Snam Rete Gas has been awarded the Oscar di Bilancio for corporate governance. The official report of the jury reads: “the company has implemented a corporate governance system consistent with international best practices, with a clear view of the rights of the company’s stakeholders, well-defined roles and high-quality reporting. The following aspects are particularly remarkable: the suitable set-up of the board of directors, the clearly defined responsibilities and organisation of the working of the control system, as well as the speed with which the company complied with the latest version of the Code of Conduct issued by Borsa Italiana and the provisions of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.�?
The 2007 edition of the Oscar di Bilancio is organised by FERPI - Federazione Relazioni Pubbliche Italiana with the patronage of the Italian President. The award ceremony was held today, Wednesday 28 November, at Palazzo Mezzanotte, Borsa Italiana, Milan.
The chairman, Alberto Meomartini and CEO, Carlo Malacarne, collected this prestigious award on behalf of Snam Rete Gas.
The jury included the editor of Il Sole 24 Ore, Ferruccio De Bortoli, and the chairman of Borsa Italiana, Angelo Tantazzi. It selected the finalists on the basis of quality, prowess, innovation and continuity. Great weight was given to progress achieved over the years, the presence of both financial as well as social and environmental reporting, transparency and completeness of documentation, the quality of graphics and the timing and the manner in which reporting is presented.
Snam Rete Gas is the market leader of the Italian natural gas transportation and dispatching sector. It has been designing, constructing and monitoring a network of more than 30,000 kilometres of pipelines, through a dispatching centre, eight units, 55 maintenance centres and 10 compression stations, for sixty years. It has been listed on the stock exchange since 2001 and, in six years, the number of shippers that uses its services has increased from 20 to 60. By 2010 Snam Rete Gas will invest over 4 billion euro in developing the transport capacity of its network, so that it will be ready to meet the growing demand for energy. It is a huge project, requiring new technology, and is developed with safety, the environment and sustainability in mind.
