Work begins on upgrading the Malborghetto compressor station
In July 2008 work is to begin on upgrading the Malborghetto compressor station in Udine province. The purpose of this project is to increase the station’s transport capacity, in line with the development of gas imports from Russia.
The upgrading will consist of the installation of a new, latest-generation 25 MW gas compression unit, and a series of system upgrade operations: station piping modifications, installation of new boilers and filters, gas recovery upgrade, replacement of transformers and electricity generators, new warehousing, and moving of vents.
These operations will be carried out using the best technologies currently available and in line with the specifications of the “Environmental Management System? for Snam Rete Gas’s compressor stations, in conformance with the UNI EN ISO 14001 standard. As with all compressor stations, the design criteria adopted are based on Italian and international legislation in this area, as well as on Snam Rete Gas’s consolidated experience in the sector, and are aimed at achieving a high degree of safety, system reliability and operational efficiency.
The Malborghetto station is located on the National Pipeline Network. It ensures the flow of gas in the transmission network and it is controlled remotely by the Dispatching Centre, which is operational 24 hours a day.
