Snam brings its innovation experience to Digital Week, the event promoted by the Municipality of Milan to discuss digital transformation in all its aspects. The company, Europe’s largest gas utility, will meet the key stakeholders from the digital sector and startups at the MUDEC, the Museum of Cultures in Milan, Saturday 16 March from 9 am to 6 pm at the "Innovation for tomorrow's energy" event.

On this occasion, Snam will create a series of meetings to talk about its path of technological evolution and digitalisation and liaise with the some of the main players in the innovation space: researchers, developers and startups. Speakers at the conference will include Cambridge University researcher John Harper, an expert in the advanced programming language Python and in machine learning, and Cosma Panzacchi, executive vice president of Digital Transformation & Technology at Snam.

Snam CEO, Marco Alverà, said: “Technological innovation and digital transformation are among the pillars of the ‘Snamtec’ project, in which we will invest 850 million euros by 2022 to create the energy company of the future. Our goal is to seize the opportunities offered by digital technology to guide the energy transition, making our network more and more intelligent, also through the use of machine learning, internet of things and the use of drones, satellites and sensors to optimize monitoring and infrastructure management”.

Conversations on innovation will fall into three areas: Human, Expertise & Experience and Innovation & Inspiration, the key elements for digital transformation according to Snam. Among topics of discussion, for example, will be IOT (“Internet of Things”) and augmented reality solutions used by the company for the monitoring and maintenance of gas infrastructure throughout Italy, the open innovation platform (“Snam Up”) created to make employees and startups pioneers of innovation within the company, “coding” as a game and introducing children to computer programming languages, virtual reality as a tool for training, artificial intelligence and the application of new technologies to the world of art. The event will be open to the public and will feature educational workshops and interactive experiences.
