The Ticino Park
The Ticino Park is an important ecological corridor between the Alps and the Apennines and it lies on the Po Valley, a geographical area closely connected with our country's energy development and with Snam's history. It was here that Italy's conversion to methane began and where, over the years, the network of pipelines gradually extended across the whole country, being still nowadays the central hub of Italy's energy supply.
The book
Published under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea The book - which is edited by Antonio Cianciullo, journalist of Repubblica specialized in evironmental and sustainability issues - describes the effective integration between the infrastructure and the park, with a view to protection and enhancement of this natural heritage recognized by UNESCO, thanks to the adoption of advanced technologies to restore and often make improvements to the land.
"The book clearly shows how the requirements shows how the requirements of economic development and the environment can coexist. It is an example of a shared commitment that pushes us towards the global scope of an ambitious challenge regarding the future of the planet and its inhabitants: to make sustainability an indispensable part of a new economic approach", the Minister of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, Gian Luca Galletti, commented in the preface.
For the first time this year, the book is divided into three parts. The first one is dedicated to the story of the Park and the relationship between man and nature: the authors tell the park's history and decribe the biodiversity and the landscape with historical and literary evocations. The second part, written by the jpurnalist Sissi Bellomo, explores the involvement of Snam and its best practices aimed at protecting the unique characteristics of the area, assessing the environmental value and identifying the most appropriate design solutions and mitigation to ensure the project's environmental compatibility and bring the soil to the original state, preserving the integrity of the ecosystem. In the final part, "Elements for a riverside tale", is a novel by the writer Gianni Biondillo that describes suggestively the beautiful landscapes, the traditions and the history of the Park.
The preface of the book also features texts by Giampiero Sammuri, president of Federparchi Europarc Italia and Gian Pietro Beltrami, president of the Lombard Park of the Ticino Valley.
